Celebritista: Jennifer Lopez Sues Stroller Company for $30M Jennifer Lopez Sues Stroller Company for $30M ================================================================================ nyles on 26 February, 2009 09:50:00 Latin singer Jennifer Lopez and husband Marc Anthony have filed a lawsuit against the manufacturers of a baby carriage for $30 million for using a photo of them to sell their merchandise. Lopez and Anthony sued Silver Cross Ltd., saying the firm took advantage of a photograph showing the couple and their twins using the company’s Balmoral Pram Carriage strollers, which costs $3,000 apiece. The suit claims that the photo was used on the Silver Cross’s web site and in “various print and electronic media and newsletters.” In addition, the lawsuit insists that the company “knowingly and intentionally misappropriated and used the names, images, likenesses and photographs of Lopez and Anthony to market and sell Defendants’ line of high-end baby carriages throughout the world.” "Lopez and Anthony have invested considerable time, money and energy in the development of their respective prominence and prestige in the public eye," the suit adds. “Defendants have sought to illegally capitalize on plaintiffs' hard work.” The couple has eight complaints enumerated in their lawsuit, including violation of civil code, misappropriation of the common law right of publicity, unjust enrichment, and copyright infringement. Lopez and Anthony is asking for over $5 million in damages on six of the eight allegations, in addition to attorneys fees and profits associated with the sale of the said carriage. In a caption on its web site, Silver Cross, with outlets in the U.S. and the U.K., states, "Jennifer Lopez will be the envy of Long Island when she's out and about with their new baby twins, thanks to two beautiful Onyx Black Silver Cross Balmoral prams she has taken for the pair. The image was originally published in an exclusive spread in People magazine. Silver Cross Ltd., which has taken down the advertisement from their site, has yet to respond to the lawsuit filed in a California District Court Wednesday.
