DMX Accused of Bilking Hospital
Rapper is said to have attempted skipping hospital bills by providing false information.
Earl Simmons, more popularly known as DMX, may be facing charges for using a fake name and a false address to avoid paying his hospital bill at the Mayo Clinic in April.
The high-profile rapper used the name Troy Jones when he checked in at the clinic due to shortness of breath and chest pains.
He was diagnosed with pneumonia, but was given release orders after eight hours.
Simmons reportedly told a visitor to his hospital room, “Someone in the projects is going to get the bill.”
According to the local police, Simmons may be charged with “theft of services” and providing Mayo Clinic with “false information including name and address for billing purposes.”
DMX’s lawyer Murray Richman, who called the investigation “petty,” says that Sheriff Joe Arpaio “had no sympathy for the sick.”
However, he did not have any comment on Simmons’ financial status and why he attempted to dodge the hospital bill.
A spokesman for Mayo Clinic said that the hospital does not disclose patients’ identities, even those under false names. Nor do they reveal the amount of the bills.
Aside from this latest hitch, Simmons was arraigned on four counts of drug possession and seven counts of animal cruelty.
Simmons has had five No. 1 Billboard albums and has developed a global following. He is described by an entertainment web site as the king of hardcore rap.
