Anne Hathaway to Play Judy Garland

After getting an Oscar nomination, Anne Hathaway has been slated to star in the forthcoming movie and stage adaptations of the life of the Wizard of Oz legend.

The Rachel Getting Married star will show off her dancing and singing skills in the grand film and stage versions of Gerald Clarke’s 2000 book titled Get Happy: The Life of Judy Garland, which chronicles Garland's rise to fame and her struggle with drugs and alcohol.

Weinstein Co., which acquired the movie and stage rights, refers to Clarke’s Garland biography as providing a “fascinating and comprehensive look at Garland’s life.” Company executive Harvey Weinstein likewise remarked at how the book is “particularly outstanding because of its exclusive details from her own writings.”

As to Hathaway playing Garland onstage and onscreen, Weinstein says the actress “will be a true class act in this challenging role.”
