An “untouched” copy of the comic book that brought Superman global attention and cemented his title as the first superhero has been put up for auction and is expected to sell for $400,ooo.

Bidding for the rare copy began Friday and will go on for two weeks at comicconnect.com, owned by Fishler and Vincent Zurzolo, who are also owners of Metropolis Collectibles. Reports claim that there are only about 100 existing copies of the comic book, which was co-created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.

Fishler says that copies of Action Comics No. 1 are in a “fine” state and are worth $126,000. However the said rare comic book could sell many times more than that.

The graphic work of fiction first hit shelves in 1938 and sold for 10 cents. The unnamed owner of the comic book to be auctioned purchased the copy for 35 cents and kept it for 58 years.

Comic guru Stephen Fishler says, “It's the Holy Grail of comic books. One bidder wanted to trade (me) his Ferrari for the comic book," the New York Daily News reports.
