Stars Pay Tribute to Paul Newman
Hollywood pays special tribute to screen legend Paul Newman at an Oct. 27 benefit gala for the late actor’s California kids' camp.
The gala will be attended by several movie personalities including Bruce Willis, Jack Nicholson, Sean Penn, Warren Beatty, Annette Bening, Billy Crystal, Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts.
The stars will be performing a stage reading of The World of Nick Adams, an adaptation of one of Ernest Hemingway’s autobiographical stories, penned by Newman’s longtime friend and business partner A.E. Hotchner.
Proceeds from the event to be held at San Francisco’s Davies Symphony Hall will be donated to The Painted Turtle, a camp for gravely ill teenagers.
The Painted Turtle is part of Newman's Hole in the Wall residential summer camp, which he co-founded in 1988 with Hotchner, and which he named after the gang in the actor's film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
Newman succumbed to lung cancer on Friday (Sept. 26) at age 83 and was cremated after a private funeral ceremony held on Monday (Sept. 29) near his home in Westport, CT.
