Psychiatrist: Something’s Wrong with Joaquin Phoenix

After exhibiting curious behavior on a talk show, actor-turned-rapper Joaquin Phoenix has become the subject of ridicule and is said to be suffering from something “beyond drug use.”

During a recent appearance on the Late Show With David Letterman to promote his latest movie called Two Lovers, Phoenix sported a scraggly beard, wore dark sunglasses, chewed gum, and gave curt replies when questioned.

Phoenix, who received an Oscar nomination for Walk the Line, has since been ridiculed by various publications. Of late, comedian Ben Stiller aped the actor’s Letterman appearance during the Academy Awards.

A medical professional has provided a theory on the actor’s manners, branding it as "socially inappropriate behaviour." The Los Angeles Times quotes Chicago psychiatrist Paul Dobransky, saying "There is something wrong (with Phoenix). And it's beyond drug use."

He added, "I was pretty offended by that skit at the Oscars,” referring to Stiller’s Oscar skit. "It struck me as potentially beating down on the mentally ill."

Phoenix representative Susan Patricola got incensed at Dobransky’s remarks, insisting that the doctor should not have given comments about the actor’s conduct. The spokeswoman tells E! News, "How absolutely inappropriate for a doctor who has no personal interaction or relationship with someone to diagnose them. And to do so in a public forum. (I) hope they spelled his name right. Another 15-minute 'expert' is born! Astonishingly inappropriate!”
