Prince Harry Involved in Another Race Row
Prince Harry has gotten himself involved in another racism inicident after he reportedly told black comedian Stephen K. Amos that he did not “sound like a black chap.”
The prince, 24, allegedly made the comment in November during the 60th birthday celebration of his father Prince Charles. After congratulating Amos backstage for his performance, Prince Harry reportedly said, “You don’t sound like a black chap.”
Amos says, "I wanted to say: 'How is (sic) I supposed to sound?'"
Due to this latest episode, military officials have decided to have the British royal repeat sensitivity training and take another diversity and equality course. According to an official, all cadets take the course, which includes "fairly standard stuff about making people aware of being sensitive about what they say," Agence France Presse reports.
The Ministry of Defense said Prince Harry’s commanding officer had given him "a dressing down." Representatives for Prince Harry’s office stated that he had been "subjected to normal army disciplinary procedures" but would not confirm he is to enroll in a diversity course.
The news comes after the prince, a lieutenant in the Household Cavalry regiment who is training to be a helicopter pilot, was compelled to issue an apology in November last year after he was caught on camera referring to a Pakistani Army cadet as a “Paki,” an incident that occurred in 2006 during his army officer training but was only recently made public. After the video recording was disclosed, Prince Harry was ordered to attend a disciplinary hearing with a commanding officer.
