After becoming involved in a serious car mishap that resulted to an arm surgery, Morgan Freeman is now reported to be leaving the hospital later this week.

Freeman, 71, was traveling along the highway near his Charleston, Mississippi home on Sunday night when he lost control of his car.

He and a female passenger had to be cut free from the rubble and airlifted to the Regional Medical Center (The Med) in Memphis, Tennessee.

Freeman spokeswoman, Donna Lee, said that The Dark Knight actor, who suffered a broken arm and shoulder after his car flipped over, is already making progress.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Lee stated, "Morgan is doing well after his surgery last night to reconnect nerves and repair damage in his left arm and hand.

"The surgery last night lasted four and a half hours. He's visiting with family this morning. As of this morning he's up and walking around and looking forward to his release in a few days."

Meanwhile, Whoopi Goldberg, a friend of Freeman’s, sent a message of support after the accident.

Speaking to the actor directly, Goldberg said, “Morgan, you just don't even sweat it. You get better, we're thinking of you... we're waiting for you baby.”
