Oscar-nominated Keira Knightley has revealed how she got the lead role in the new movie adaptation of My Fair Lady from Columbia Pictures.

The Atonement star got extremely stunned at the thought of performing for the famous theater impresario and film co-producer Cameron Macintosh that she decided to “get drunk.”

The actress said, “It was in front of Cameron himself, so the only option was to get drunk. I probably did slur my words. I can't remember.”

Knightley, who will play Eliza Doolittle opposite Daniel Day-Lewis as Henry Higgins, intends to sing all the classic numbers herself.

She tells People, "There's nothing like a musical. Whenever I am feeling remotely down I put on Gigi. But the best musical ever has to be Fiddler On The Roof. I gave the DVD to my brother for Christmas in an attempt to convert him."

While My Fair Lady will be the actress’ musical debut, it isn’t the first time she’ll be singing onscreen as she has also sang in the recent pic The Edge of Love.

Meanwhile, Emma Thompson is signed on to pen the project, a remake of the 1964 movie musical that starred Audrey Hepburn.

Thompson, who told Parade that she will take a long time writing the film since she does not use a word processor, is the only one to have won Oscars both for acting (Howard’s End in 1992) and screenwriting (Sense and Sensibility in 1995).
