Almost forty years after the death of legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix, Motorhead star Lemmy Kilmister has decided to announce that the rock legend was murdered by his friends.

Hendrix, who was found dead in London in 1970, was said to have died after choking on his own vomit. There were speculations that he was murdered.

But according to SolarNavigator.net, the popular belief was that "he died in bed after drinking wine and taking nine Vesperax sleeping pills, then asphyxiating on his own vomit."

Kilmister insisted that the rocker was abandoned by his friends, which eventually contributed to Hendrix’s untimely passing.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Kilmister said, “Hendrix was just a sweet guy - to an extent, he was murdered by the people around him, because they didn’t take care of him. They just didn’t watch his back.”

Several decades have passed but the exact causes of Hendrix’s death are yet to be determined.

Born Johnny Allen Hendrix (and later re-named James Marshall Hendrix), he was one of the greatest and most influential guitarists in rock music history. He headlined the iconic 1969 Woodstock Festival prior to his death at the age of 27.

Meanwhile, Motorhead has been rocking for thirty years, with hits including The Ace Of Spades and Silver Machine.

During this year's Mojo Awards, the group was honored with the Mojo Hero award.
